Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant in April 2011. This grant, which is additional to main school funding, is seen by the government as the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. Pupil Premium is paid for any pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last 6 years. Pupil Premium Plus is allocated to looked after children (LAC), children under a Special Guardianship Order (SGO) and children adopted from care. A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.  Schools can decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. The money enables us to continue our work supporting these children and their families in order that they make the best possible progress in school.
