Religious Education and
Collective Worship

In Key Stage 1

  • We prioritise the knowledge of Christianity; its origin, setting, culture, stories, sights and sounds so that children can continue their breadth of study as they move to each year group.
  • We ensure that pupils are aware of stories such as the parable of the Good Samaritan to enable children with the knowledge to make links in Christian traditions
  • In Year 2, we ensure that the children have the knowledge of Judaism; where they pray, the role of a Rabbi, the importance of Shabbat and their Holy book.

In Key Stage 2

  • We recap and build on their knowledge of Christianity and Judaism, throughout different year groups, and focus on stories, texts and accounts from different traditions to support pupils’ understanding of such concepts.
  • We ensure pupils are secure in basic ideas, teachings, stories and practices critical to religious and non-religious content.
  • We introduce children to the study of Islam and Humanism.
  • In year 6, we ensure that children gain a secure knowledge of Hindu-Dharma, to make links with other religions studied, and to take them through to high school.

We follow the Cheshire East Locally Agreed Syllabus 2022 for the teaching of Religious Education. Knowledge and skills are built on through the child’s time at school. Pupils study Christianity, Judaism, Hindu-Dharma, Islam and Humanism. The children explore these religions in depth and compare and contrast them.

All classes take part in regular Collective Worship, either as part of a class, key stage or whole school. If they wish to, parents have the right to withdraw their child from part of, or all, Collective Worship.
